Ten Ways to Say Thank You

"Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you'll soon find many more around you. Truly appreciate life and you'll find that you have more of it." - Ralph Marston

10 Ways to Say Thank You:

1)      Write a “Thank-you Note”

This one's easy but so so so appreciated. One lesson my grandma taught me when I was younger that will stick with me for the rest of my life is to write hand-written notes. They show true sincerity and thoughtfulness. They show that you took the time to write down your feelings, well-wishes, condolences, etc....

Really, they take anywhere from 5-10 minutes but mean the world to people!

If you love the calligraphy in the card I just received, check out my dear friend Danielle's instagram page (a_little_inkling) for more information!

2)      Call

Pick. Up. The. Phone.

We live in a sad age where so much happens through text, social media, etc... it's highly impersonal and quite literally cannot compare to dialing a friend and having a conversation.

I guarantee, it'll brighten your friend's/family member's day, and your own!

3)      Send Flowers

Ahhhhh my favorite! If a friend does a nice favor for you, or listens to a rant you had, or gives you amazing friendly advice this is a perfect way to thank them!

Fresh flowers may be one of the most under-rated small acts of kindness around. Yes, I've had guys give me flowers in the past, but my favorite bouquets have come from my best girl-friends either 'just because' or 'just to say thanks'.

Special shout-out to my dad who will be stepping in as my Valentine this year and has already promised my favorite pink roses <3 you the real mvp, dad!

4)      Return the Favor

Did a friend help you study for an exam? Help them next time. Did a friend pick up the tab at a brunch? next one's on you!

I'm not always one for 'an eye for an eye' but every once in awhile returning the favor shows your loved ones that you care, remember the time they helped you, and are willing to do the same.

5)      Treat them to Coffee

Basically because who doesn't like a good cup of coffee?

Check out my favorite French coffee shop and patisserie in Georgetown, Paul's. Every single thing on the menu is DELISH!

6)      Pick Up a Thoughtful Gift

Does your friend have a thing for donuts and you just so happen to stumble upon a delish one? Grab it for them.

Is your coworker having a bad day at work? Grab an extra piece of chocolate from the cafeteria and leave it for them.

Little tiny things that remind your friends that you know what they like and were thinking of them is one of the absolute kindest gestures.

7)      Hug it Out

I literally just read an article about the benefits of hugging.

So... go hug it out! Make yourself, and your friends feel the love!

8)      Cook a Homemade Dinner

Cooking someone a homemade dinner is a wonderful way to say thank you! It shows that you are willing to take the time to prepare, cook, and dine with that person to show gratitude.

Also, side benefit that there are usually always extras so you and your friend get a nice doggy bag for lunch the next day too!

9)      Say “I Love You”

As this is geared towards saying thank you to your friends and family, the most important thing you can do is say "I love you".

Whether or not it is during the process of thanking them, telling your friends and family how much they mean to you is paramount.

10)   Put Time Aside to Spend Time Together

We all live busy, hectic lives. It's hard to consistently see our dearest friends sometimes.
So, taking time out of our busy schedules to just enjoy one another is probably the best way to say 'thank you' or 'I appreciate you'.
Whether a 5 minute phone call, a coffee date, a walk around town, or a dinner spending time with those that you care about is the best way to thank them and yourself.
