After a year of blogging I'd say that I've pretty successfully dipped my toe into the surface of the blogger world, but ooooh is there still so much in the depths for me to discover.
I can't wait to do a post when the marker for my 1-year hits because I really want to write out and explain just how life-changing blogging has been for me. But today is for me to give recognition to the blogs I read every day, some of which inspired me to start blogging in the first place! Of the five I'm talking about I actually personally know two of them and cannot tell you how happy I am to support their blogs. The other three I've read since the dawning of time (okay, more like sophomore year of college) and have followings that I use as inspiration daily.
The College Prepster aka Carly is the first blog I every followed before this crazy big world of blogging took flight. I was a sophomore at George Mason University and Carly was blogging about outfits and college advice from Georgetown, right down the road. She was honest, funny, and always made me feel like I wasn't the only one going through whatever had me stressed at the time.
She's the reason I put this post together in the first place, because I GOT TO MEET HER LAST NIGHT! She was doing a meet-and-greet at Tuckernuck in Georgetown so I stopped in afterwork and got to personally thank her for being who she is. She's even more delightful in person than she is online, which shows how truly amazing of a person she is!
When I started my blog last January her style was definitely an inspiration point. And I don't mean what she was wearing, I mean the way she tailors her website, utilizes her own personal voice, and engages with her followers. I hope that one day I can have the impact on my readers that Carly does on hers. Until then, I'll continue to be a CP fangirl.
I found Gal Meets Glam aka Julia Engel through my devout readership of The College Prepster. Julia and Carly are the best of friends, who met, you guessed it, through blogging. How great is that?!
I'm fairly certain Gal Meets Glam has been around since blogging became even a slight possibility and is one of the first, most read fashion/lifestyle blogs out there. Julia is up to over a million followers on Instagram, travels the world, and serves as an influencer for any brand you could dream of. For example, she just launched a boot with Frye Company that is absolutely gorgeous.
Her and her husband's adventures around the world and adorable life in Charleston, SC leave me day dreaming constantly and I always appreciate her honesty in everything she posts. I'd say I read her blog a bit less than the others, but with such a high profile it always leaves me inspiration for how I hope to see my blog one day.
Katie's Bliss aka Katie Manwaring is a New York City-based fashion blog that I didn't find until maybe 6 months ago. I don't even exactly remember how I found her, but I think it had something to do with Lilly Pulitzer and one of her collaborations.
Either way, Katie is great to follow because she is simply so real. Like the first two, she's a full-time blogger which I find very fascinating and I'm always dying to learn more. She posts constant Instagram story videos that really do give a snapshot into her life, which is something that makes her super relatable.
Her boyfriend of forever, Nick, loves her to absolute death and watching their relationship is so fun. They're both silly, goofy, and funny yet stunning, fashionable, and smart. They have the perfect little (I guess, big) NYC life that they enjoy spending with each other.
What I like most about Katie's blog is that although it is a fashion blog, she choses pieces that are affordable and versatile. I follow some NYC bloggers that are wearing Chanel and Prada around every corner, which is nice.... but, when will I ever be able to afford it OR get the chance to wear something like that.
All of her pieces are adorable and can be translated to day-time or night-time. I simply just love her look and personality!
So MI Mentality was started this year by a girl I know from High School, Kelly. It is a blog about mental illness, recovery, and coping.
What I love most about the blog is just how honest Kelly is in describing her past, her experience, and how she copes (along with if she's having a particularly bad or good week). She talks about anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexual assault, and basically any of those difficult subjects that you or I are likely not brave enough to talk about.
And that's just what she is... she's incredibly brave for shedding light on these issues, for candidly talking about them, and for making those that suffer from mental illness know that they're not alone, which is a feeling that those suffering often feel.
Kelly's blog inspires me every day to be more honest and candid about who I am as a person including the experiences I've gone through, good or bad, that have made me such. I always love reading her new posts and respect her forever for sharing them!
Teagan's Sandbox is a Mommy Blog started by a friend of mine from College, Jenn. She was actually the president of my sorority when I was a Freshman and Sophomore and I always looked up to her as a leader in our chapter because of that. Fast forward a couple years I became president and always tried to be like her and her leadership styles.
Fast forward again and she's in the blogging sphere too! Teagan was born just over a year ago and Jenn is now a stay at home mom, watching her little one grow before her eyes. Fortunate to us, the readers, we have had the opportunity to watch that little red-headed cutie grow up too.
Like Kelly, I appreciate Jenn and her blog because it's 100% real. She has good days, she has bad days, and she has days that as a person without a child I cannot even imagine. She's extremely beautiful and makes being a mom look easy (don't worry, I know it isn't) because of how gracefully she handles every situation.
She has become an advocate for essential oils and due to new dietary restrictions she talks a lot about what she can/can't eat and recipes to go along with it. Even though I don't have a child I feel like there is always something to learn and enjoy on both her blog and Instagram (her Instagram story is always a personal fav!) and gets me excited to one day have a little-one of my own.
