So I'm kicking off a new monthly segment that will highlight the things I'm coveting every month. It could be anywhere from fashion trends, to deals and steals, to travel, to food, and on and on.
Kicking it off in September seems right to me because I love the month of September. The days are getting cooler, fall fashion is coming alive, people begin to settle down from their crazy summer adventures and start to appreciate and plan smaller, more intimate things.
This September I have been blessed to have already traveled to my hometown for a family wedding, enjoyed a beautiful weekend home in D.C. and am currently packing for a weekend in Virginia Beach directly followed by two weeks in Montana. I can't say I've settled down like most people post-summer, but I'm thrilled for the rest of the month!
With all of that in mind, here are my September 2017 Favorites:
1) Bell Sleeves
I'll be honest, when I like a trend I go over-board with it. It'd like to say I'm sorry, but really #sorrynotsorry. When I saw the bell sleeve trend arising I quite literally fell in love and have now filled my closet with various styles. In my most recent post I featured a felt green blouse from J.Crew that I have already planned dozens of other outfits with. I bought the same top in an embroidered black and white stripe that can be found on my Instagram last week.
When I was in Banana Republic I bought a clearance floral bell-sleeved dress and a new Fall 2017 black embroidered bell-sleeve dress as well.
I just love that even the most simple of outfits can be upgraded because of a little flouncy sleeve. I've seen new style come out daily from all of my favorite stores and it's looking like a trend that will be favorited in my closet for the foreseeable future.
2) Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea
I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes as much as the next, but sometimes my stomach can be weak to coffee (devastatingly sad, I know...) so I found the perfect alternative that tastes EVEN MORE like fall in a cup than a PSL: a Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea.
Chai tea is already a pretty fall-flavored drink with all of the warm spices, but adding the pumpkin flavor makes it absolute heaven in a cup.
Trader Joes makes a powdered version that you just mix with water to make a latte. I've also just done it by brewing my standard chai tea and adding almond milk and a bit of pumpkin puree (a must-have pantry item for fall if you ask me). Still, my favorite comes from Starbucks, which is seriously cliche, but o so delicious.
3) Teva Sandals
I'll be 100% honest with this one: I used to think these were absolutely hideous and I just simply didn't understand them. Growing up I wasn't much of an outdoorsman. Really the past couple of years have really made me appreciate the outdoors and I'd say now my #1 hobby when I'm free is hiking.
So, as I've been planning my trip to Montana (it's a work trip and I'll be taking a couple personal days to explore) I had to purchase some upgraded hiking and outdoors apparel. Alas, I bought my first pair of Tevas.
O my word are the comfortable! They have just as much support as my hiking boots minus the stuffy-ness of having a whole boot on. They have been perfect for short trails that don't ascend much elevation or to throw in my pack for trails that have water. They are quick, light-weight, supportive, and may I dare say... cute to wear with all of my hiking stuff.
In buying one pair of sandals, Teva now has a new customer for life!
4) LUSH Cosmetics Dry Shampoo
It wasn't until the past year or so that I've used dry shampoo almost religiously, but at this point I'd say that I'm a member of the dry shampoo cult.
I used to wash, condition, blow-dry, and straighten my hair every. single. day. You can't even begin to imagine the damage that had on my hair. Not to mention I prefer my hair a few shades blonder than my natural so the combination of the dye chemicals and the heat was a killer on my hair.
I still prefer to do all of the aforementioned hair routines as before, minus the washing every day. With my hair specifically it's just so bad for it. So, I started letting my natural oils take hold and using dry shampoo every other day (and sometimes even for a third, gasp!)
I've tried many brands, but LUSH's dry shampoo powder is my absolute favorite. You simply sprinkle it into your hair, tussle it a bit with your fingers, and then brush out any excess powder. For me it adds so much extra volume, makes it look clean and fresh, and has a great grapefruit/citrus-y scent to it.
5) Thomas Rhett's New Album
I love Thomas Rhett. I love his wife, Lauren. I follow them both on all forms of social media and consider them my favorite modern day love story. And I know I'm not the only person here that thinks that. They are just so darn cute, love each other so much, and truly do good in this world.
I've been a fan of Thomas Rhett since the beginning and have loved hearing all of his songs about Lauren, vacationing, and living life to the fullest. But nothing compares to the fact that he now has two beautiful daughters that are influencing his song writing and make the lyrics even more swoon-worthy than before.
6) Acai Bowls
I just can't get enough of them! We have a little place right down the street from me called South Block Juice Co. and their acas bowls are simply to die for. All of the ingredients are fresh and organic to include the homemade granola they put on top.
I think what I like best about them is that they keep me full all day. I've been so busy which usually takes a toll on both my mental and physical health. I tend to forget to eat, then overeat and it leaves me feeling extremely lethargic which is the opposite to what I need to be during a busy time.
These bowls are definitely trendy (and extremely instagram worthy) so I'm sure that if you don't already you will soon have a juice or smoothie bar in your neighborhood that serves up this delicious meal.
7) Hydroflask Water Bottle
So I'm a huge Yeti fan. Always have been, and always will be. But, I've been introduced to another amazing product- Hydroflask.
Two of my coworkers are native Hawaiian and recommended the water bottle to me when they saw me drinking from my Yeti. At the time I wasn't really in need of another expensive and durable drink container, but with my upcoming trip to Montana (I know I keep mentioning it but I'm just SO excited!) I needed a bottle that had a screw-on lid, which my Yeti does not.
I did a test with the bottle to make sure it stood up to it's hype by filling it with ice and just letting it sit. 2.5 days later there was still ice in the bottle! I'm extremely impressed and it will be with me at all times while hiking out West!
So I decided to try one of those 'clothing subscription things' that I've been seeing everywhere! I compared a lot of the hot ones but finally decided on LeTote and I'm extremely impressed!
Instead of them sending me items that I either just buy or return I am shipped unlimited 'totes' per month, which include 3 apparel items and 2 accessories. The thing is, you don't have to buy them and you CAN wear them. Basically it's a designer rental service like rent the runway only better. So far I've received 3 totes and loved everything in them.
I've stuck to only wearing the things once and sending them back so I can get another tote. You do have the option to buy the items if you really do fall in love with them and the price is right on that!
I highly recommend checking it out! Use my referral and receive your first tote free!
I'm obsessed. The suede trend is just so great. I remember great suede pieces coming out last year but I was a little afraid to buy anything with fear that it wasn't for me. To that I say, screw it! If I like a trend I'm going to go for it and not worry if it's 'for me' or not.
So I started small and got a suede jumper that I can wear layered with a black tee for casual occasions or with a black collared shirt for work. I LOVE IT!
So, as is assumed I because obsessed and continued to buy a short from my favorite local boutique, Violet Boutique, a pair of risky thigh-high boots, and a satchel. So far I've only bought tan suede items, but I foresee some burgundy or dark green suede in my near future.
10) Golf Apparel
My dad is a big golfer and I've had countless friends that golf regularly, but I've never really gotten into it because I figured I'd be absolutely terrible.
Fast-forward to Haley at 25 and I'm still terrible but I now want to learn. I really do love the idea of a relaxing 18-hole game on a beautiful Saturday to just clear my mind and enjoy the outdoors.
So, last week we went on a date to the driving range and I began my new saga to learn the game of golf and become semi-decent. I've been practicing my drive (the part I find most difficult) and been browsing at sets of starter clubs.
Of course along with all of this I want to look the part because, well, I just do. I love preppy clothes to begin with and golf skorts and polos just really speak to me. I've decided pink is my golf color because I'm extra, and I'm just going to slowly accrue because I believe if you look good you feel good and that can only help my golf game!
Wish me luck!
