After our journey through the mountains and shores of Oregon we crossed the swell into Washington. Our plan was to head straight from the brewery to Chamber's Bay because we had already had such an eventful morning. However, a quick look at the map showed us a small state park that really intrigued us. Cape Disappointment is at the very southwest tip of Washington and has quite the peculiar name. I still haven't done my research as to why it's called that, but I can assure you that it is anything but disappointing.
We arrived and saw a few different directional signs with one being a lighthouse. As you all know by now, I'm absolutely enthralled by lighthouses so we decided to spend the afternoon hiking a bit to the shore to visit a beautiful lighthouse. We had sweeping views of the rugged shoreline and it was honestly such a nice surprise journey along our trip. It was only a 30 minute detour from our original route, so there really wasn't any time lost and there were a ton of beautiful memories gained.
After our lighthouse adventures we drove up to the only Devin-requested item on the agenda. Chamber's Bay Golf Course is a public course outside of Tacoma where the U.S. Open was held a number of years ago. Devin being the avid golfer and golf-watcher that he is simply had to visit and was so happy that we did.
Because we didn't bring clubs we didn't actually play the course, but we ate dinner at the club and got to visit the pro-shop, which was plenty enough to put that amazing smile on his face. From what we could see of the course it was absolutely stunning, but definitely difficult to play. Fortunately our new goal is to look for jobs out in that area in 2021 or 2022 so we will have plenty of opportunities to potentially play there.
After such a long day we drove straight to the AirBnB and straight to bed. We had an extremely busy day planned for Saturday and needed all the rest we could get. Fortunately we were still a bit jet-lagged so we fell asleep at 8pm and got 10 full hours of sleep before our first day of hiking!
